Project: Workshop Backpacks & Accessories
Artsac is a backpack brand that looked to create a new sub-brand, something a little different and aimed at a younger audience. I spent 4 weeks at their studio in Guangzhou China developing what would become Artsac Workshop. Alongside their Creative Director we created the brand story and identity for the brand. Workshop became a brand that puts design at its heart and showcases a designer or an artists work on the products themselves.
I was lucky enough to be the first designer to not only have my own edition of backpacks but also help create the brands identity from scratch including the logo, materials, fixtures and fittings, bag shapes and colours. What makes my version of bags rather special is that we were able to create a huge 20inch embossing plate featuring a repeating typographic pattern, this plate was used to emboss a PU leather material and used to trim all the bags.
Throughout my range of bags you can find both the typographic embossed PU and the screen-printed lining that features the same design. The idea being that once Workshop collaborated with another designer the bags will take on a whole new look and the inside trim will feature another designers or artists work. Since the brands release it has gone from strength to strength having been involved in the Agenda shows in Miami and Las Vegas, Pure in London and is stocked online at ASOS.
